Speed Reading
One of my April projects is to learn one new thing. I learned origami in February, so I am on target for learning six new things as I had hoped to do (#9 of my new year's resolutions). This month, I want to learn to speed read.
I am a fairly slow reader. It can be down right frustrating, because I love to read and have many books I want to read....and will add to this list regularly :) I found a free resource through Spreeder. They have other resources for sale, which I wouldn't mind obtaining one day. But finances are a bit short these days, so in the meantime I can utilize the free resource they offer.
Those of us who read slowly tend to read in our heads as though we are reading out loud. Our voice is slower than our brains. Really, our brains could read over sentences quite rapidly and our comprehension would be fine. So, the resource I mentioned is a way to push past that voice in our heads and read more quickly. So, I found this resource a few months ago and played with it some then, but this month have become intentional about speed reading posts from blogs I follow. Most of us read at 300 words per minute or less if we read with our internal voice. I am pushing myself to do 400 with these blog posts right now and hope to push it up to 500 or 600 soon.
So, if you have any interest in playing with this....head on over here....they provide a paragraph you can read. Try it at 300 wpm, then up it to something else. The directions are actually in the paragraph you read through the spreeder.
And do tell me if you own the other software this company (or any other) offers. I'd like to hear how you like it in case I "find" the funds to purchase more.
